CHAPTER SIX
Kiss and the werewolf meet at a clearing in the woods. Kiss uses magic to pull ingredients from various bottles and mix them in the air. She brings the concoction to the ground in the shape of a pentagram. Kiss conjures candlelight at each point of the star, than spreads the illicit herb over the pentagram. The air becomes heavy with the smell of dried grass. After placing the Fugley in the center, Kiss gestures and chants:
Fur and fang, claw and whisker,
Let the council be deceived,
Make this cat from nose to tail,
A single color perceived.
A green cloud obscures their view. When it clears away, the calico cat is gone. Now a white cat rubs against Kiss' ankles. Kiss is frustrated that the spell didn't work. The werewolf disagrees, saying the spell worked as Fugley is one color. Kiss needs to choose her words more wisely. Kiss and Vale notice ghosts flying overhead. They suspect the ghosts are helping the council find Kiss and the cat. The werewolf urges Kiss to hurry.
Kiss adds more of the forbidden ingredient. A pungent odor fills the air. The werewolf places the white cat in the center of the pentagram. Cat eyes appear in the woods unnoticed by Kiss and the werewolf.
Fur and fang, claw and whisker,
Shed every loathsome white hair,
Make no mistake of color,
Leave the Council unaware.
A brilliant green cloud mushrooms up and collapses. The white cat is gone. A hairless cat shivers nearby. Kiss is stricken at the sight and expresses regret at attempting to change Fugley. She says flying on Halloween isn't worth doing this to Fugley. Vale disagrees. The werewolf picks up the cat and demands Kiss try again.
